With a few years under my belt as a flower farmer, I ‘ve plenty of garden dreams for 2024. Bigger and better is always the goal for any small business, which is exciting and scary at the same time!
But today (December 28) my lisianthus dream began by sowing 370 Lisianthus seeds!
The challenge was deciding which colors, especially because I want them all! I made do with lavender, apricot, green, Roseanne Brown (a gorgeous antique reddish brown), champagne, pink, and blue picotee (picotee means the flowers are edged in color).
It takes lisianthus 140-150 days to bloom, so it’s necessary to get those babies started in December/January!
In 2023 I started out with 160 seeds, many which I attempted to do winter sowing in milk jugs. That was NOT successful, and I finished with about 80 plants from seeds started inside. Not nearly enough!
This is a picture of Roseann Brown starting to bloom (2023). So ruffly and gorgeous!
And here is a stunner bouquet with bright pink lisianthus in the center and to the right Roseanne Brown.
Top on my list of goals for 2024 is to take more photos. I slacked this last summer badly. (And also in keeping up with the blog).
Just to add to the 2024 excitement- in this bed are 1000 tulip bulbs. 🌷 The grating is there to keep ravenous squirrels out!
And here are 200 baby snapdragons fall-sown and snuggled in a mulch bed for early blooms in 2024! Thanks to my friend Maryann from Poquonnock Plains Urban Farm who gifted me the seedlings. ♥
I have so many dreams to share with you! And reflections on 2023 as well.
Hugs, Pam
